Project Cuba
In March 2001, photojournalist Eric Stocklin traveled to Havana, Cuba, with National Geographic photographer Sarah Leen to work on an independent project documenting Cuban culture. Since then, Eric has ventured back to Cuba several times working with representatives from Maryland College Institute of Art (MICA) on a student exchange program with International School of Art (ISA) in Havana. Traveling by train, bus, on cattle trucks and on foot to explore small towns to which few tourists and journalists go. It was in these rural areas that Eric discovered Cuba's most valuable resource: its people. Despite many hardships, the Cubans are among some of the warmest, most compassionate, innovative people. They have learned to live together and hold on to their culture, and most of all, their pride. Many of these people have become the subjects of Eric's collection of photographs that have been published and are on display throughout the United States. |
